It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

Ohh....It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!!!

Christmas in Galway is simply the most magical time of the year. With Christmas Markets, Festive Cheer and the hustle and bustle of Christmas Shoppers on the cobbled streets with that fresh, crisp weather that Winter brings. (Any excuse to wear that wooly, bobble hat!).

Galway is famous for its friendly locals, narrow picturesque streets and ‘the craic’ - Mix all of this with the magic of Christmas and Galway becomes somewhere quite special and unique...

Countdown to the Christmas Market opening this Friday, 17th November.

The market, now in its eighth year running, will offer all kinds of festive fare, from mulled wine, crepes and roast chestnuts, to gifts and decorations. There will also be lots of family fun on offer, with the big wheel, the Helter Skelter and the carousel all returning to Eyre Square.

Santa will be paying a seasonal visit to Galway also, with a Santa's Grotto being run in the market by local charities.

Foodies are in for a treat with bratwurst, French pastries, pretzels and confectionery on offer at the food stall and beer fans can sip on a stein of German beer at the Bierkeller stall.

The market has over 50 stalls this year and is open until December 22.

There was a mild note of panic amoungst the Galway locals as to whether the German Bierkeller was coming back this year. But to be sure, to be sure it will return to the heart of the Market offering a wide range of traditional German Beers and music each night - sure where else would you start your 12 Pubs of Christmas?

Santa is coming to Galway City on the 17th November to officially Light up Galway City.

This year Santa will be making 4 special stops on his magical train as he zips through the city turning on the lights. His first train stop will be in Galway's Latin Quarter at the Cross Roads, where Galway comes alive.

Galway really goes ‘all out’ at Christmas time, with decorations and lights everywhere you turn. The shops of Galway also put on a show, with window displays full of Christmas scenes. In particular, the Brown Thomas store on Shop Street is a window display always to look out for, as they really go the full 9 yards each year.

Ice-skating returns to Galway with a 600 square metre REAL ICE ice rink fully housed in a 1000 square metre all weather marquee in the grounds of Leisureland at Salthill, Galway.

In Rain, Hail or Snow you will be able to skate away to your heart’s content on the biggest temporary, REAL ICE ice rink to be installed in Connacht this year.

There is an interesting variety of high-street, boutique and specialist shops which offer unique and interesting gift ideas.

Sample some of the artisan, local producers at the Galway Market near St.Nicholas or take the time to listen to the talented buskers and carol singers on Shop St. as you go about your shopping.

Savour the delights of the Christmas Market in Eyre Square - all just a few minutes stroll from the Harbour Hotel.
