NUI Galway Alumni awards Gala Banquet

NUI Galways 2013 Alumni Awards will this year honour international alumni as part of the Gathering 2013. The awards will be presented at the annual Gala banquet on Saturday March 9th 2013. TheGala banquet will be held in The Bailey Allen Wing located in Aras na Mac Leinn on campus.
World Snooker PTC Grand Finals:

Over 40 million TV Viewers will tune in when Ireland hosts the world’s top snooker stars in Galway over St. Patricks weekend. Stars such as world number 1 Mark Selby, World Champion John Higgins, UK champion Judd Trump and Masters champion Neil robinson will be among those attending. The event will be held in the Bailey Allen Hall in NUI Galway.
Galway fought off stiff competition from cities in the Uk, Malta and Thailand to host the event which promises to be a classic.
Galway Food Festival:

Even bigger and better in it’s second year and featuring an extended 5 day programme of fantastic food and free, family friendly events in Galway on the Easter Bank holiday weekend.
Clash of the Clans:
4th/ 5th May
Tuam Stars Pitch, Tuam
Based on families competing against other families to be crowned the best footballing family in Connacht. This will involve players from all ages talking part in 7 a side football.( 12 per team) Teams will consist of family members including fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, grandparents, cousins, nieces and nephews. We are inviting players from Gaelic clubs throughout Ireland, Uk , USA and Europe to return to play with their family in a fun and action packed weekend.
Galway Triathlon Spiddal:
18th May 2013
Olympic and sprint distance triathlon which makes the most of Spiddal’s blue flag beach, quiet Connemara roads for cycling and finishing with a circuit of the pier and village to finish.
Distances:
Sprint : 750m Swim, 20km Cylce and 5km run
Olympic: 1500m Swim 40km Cycle and 10km Run.
Gathering International Mayfly Angling Competition:
5th May 2013
The Gathering International Mayfly Angling Competition will be held on Lough Corrib in Oughterard, Co. Galway. Invitations have been sent to angkling clubs in the UK, USA, Holland, Germany, New Zealand and Australia.
The Galway Sea Festival:

The Galway Sea Festival 2013 is the start of a legacy festival to include a wide range of maritime activities, community/ family based and citywide incorporating all things maritime, sailing on the bay, kayaking, surfing, Canoeing, swimming, fishing, taditional craft, Beach Safaris and shore based activities including seafood trails, music, dance and entertainment.
International Galway Canoe Polo Open:

The Galway canoe Polo Open will host it’s first International competiton with canoe polo teams travelling from all over the EU on the June bank Holiday weekend 2013.
Galway boasts an ideal location for all water sports on an international scale and this is another example of the diversity of sports in our area.

The theme of the 2013 edition, ‘Making The Difference: The Public Health Nursing Contribution to Primary Health Care@ reflects the contribution and the difference that public health nursing makes to health o0f populations around the world.
Aer Lingus International Hurling festival:

Aer Lingus are inviting teams from all over the world to compete in the first ever International Hurling festival. The best hurlers from North America, The UK, Continental Europe, Asia, Australia and Canada will descend on Galway for a three day festival of Ceol, craic sand culture, as well as the first hurling competition of it’s kind.

Galway Masters International Basketball Gathering:

The 3rd Galway Masters International Open Basketball tournament will take place in NUIG Kingfisher in Galway in the first weekend of November 2013. Teams will be playing for a special ‘Basketball Gathering’ trophy. The event is run on a voluntary basis and any surplus funds will be donated to a nominated charity.
